One City Councilor in Providence is calling for Divine Performing Arts to put on more shows in Rhode Island. He was at their debut performance at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
STORY:
Providence city councilor Leon Tejada was born in the Dominican Republic, but moved to Rhode Island with his family almost 20 years ago.
He was at Divine Performing Arts debut performance in Providence last night with his daughter.
He was deeply touched by the pure compassion presented through the programs.
[Leon Tejada, Providence Councilman]:
"I almost cried. It’s great unbelievable. In one word – I would say perfection."
The spiritual message, and the belief that Chinese culture and inventions were passed down by the gods, really blew him away.
[Leon Tejada, Providence Councilman]:
"It come to my mind after the show…The word of hope the word of compassion and the word of beauty. So now I can see the beauty of the human being, more, I mean, I can see it clearly now. The interaction of the human being with the heavenly figures throughout the show – it’s unbelievable."
He says the show really brings hope in these troubled times.
[Leon Tejada, Providence Councilman]:
"In a world where everywhere you go there is always problems, economic crisis, people feel without hope…this kind of show shows you, whoever has the opportunity to watch it, that there is a light after the tunnel. There is a light under the tunnel for sure."
He says the show perfectly encapsulated 5,000 years of Chinese culture.
[Leon Tejada, Providence Councilman]:
"Without having to say a word, they present the whole Chinese culture. The ancient culture, like thousands of years culture. You can have an opportunity to see in a two hour show without them needing to say a simple word."
[Leon Tejada, Providence Councilman]:
"How would I rate it? Someone ask me this before. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 15."
Divine Performing Arts are taking the beauty of Chinese classical dance to more than 80 cities worldwide this year.
