Jakarta Art Awards
ZHANG:
A painting exhibition in Jakarta is showing the sights of the city, both good and bad. Over 3,000 paintings were entered from all over Indonesia. But only 12 painters and 82 paintings made it to the final show. Here’s more from NTD's Jakarta team.
STORY:
The “Colors of Jakarta” exhibition expresses many problems and the busy nature of Jakarta.
26,000 U.S. dollars in prize money is up for grabs.
[Fauzi Bowo, Governor of Jakarta]:
“All of these paintings have many different meanings of Jakarta. They are all very interesting. I'm very thankful to all of the artists that showed Jakarta with all its problems."
The artists are free to express their views of the Indonesian capital.
[Aurora Tambunan, Chairman, Jakarta Art Awards Committee]:
“It was the artist's impressions of Jakarta. Sometimes they showed the positive and sometimes they showed the negative conditions. It comes from the artist’s perspective. We hope in next year’s awards, there are more entries."
Visitors to the exhibition can vote on the painting that they think best represents Jakarta. The winning painter will receive around $1,100 dollars.
