Is China's Economy No. 1? No, But Survey Says...

Pew Research Center released a new survey that shows, despite reports of a slowdown, many people believe China's economy is the world's largest. 

 

That view is the most notable in Western Europe, where a growing number of people see China’s economy overtaking the U.S. Overall, 42% of those surveyed in over twenty countries believe that China's economy is now number one.

 

For people inside China though, most still believe the U.S. has the leading economy. 

 

For those in Western countries who see China as having the top economy, many also think it was a negative thing. 

 

So is China’s economy the largest?

 

It is not. 

 

In terms of GDP, China’s is half of the U.S – though 41% of Americans surveyed by Pew did not seem to know this.
