Xu Zhiyong Formally Arrested

Chinese lawyer Xu Zhiyong has been detained by authorities for several weeks. His lawyer said on Tuesday that he has now been formally arrested on suspicion of tax evasion. Xu is part of Gongmeng—a group of lawyers who take on welfare and human rights cases. In recent weeks there have been arrests of activists and lawyers in the lead up to October 1st which marks the 60th anniversary of the communist takeover of China.
