Chinese state media reports that an 18-year-old woman from Tibet died from the H1N1 virus on Sunday. She had been admitted to the hospital the day before.

According to China’s Health Ministry, around 21,000 cases of H1N1 have been reported in the country. It says 8 of the 13 seriously ill individuals have recovered.

The state-media report claims the Tibetan woman is the first person in mainland China to die from H1N1.

In Hong Kong there have been 21 reported deaths from the virus.
