14 People Rescued from Taiyuan City Elevator

It was a nerve-wracking situation in a high-rise in Taiyuan city. An elevator fell and stopped and between the second and third floors on Wednesday the 21st.

Local media says 14 people were stuck for three hours when reporters arrived on the scene.

Rescuers freed the people on board by smashing a hole in the wall behind the elevator, while another team lowered the elevator shaft to cut a hole in the roof.

"When we arrived we were told a senior citizen had passed out. We could only send oxygen into the elevator from below."

After ten minutes of cutting, rescuers finally broke through the ceiling of the elevator, to the elation of one man trapped near the door.

"We feel so much better having seen you!"

Fours hours later, all the trapped passengers were pulled to safety from the top of the elevator one by one.
