Strong sandstorms swept through northwest China on Sunday, killing two people.
High winds reaching more than 72 miles per hour hit the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It sent temperatures plummeting from 77 degrees Fahrenheit to just 23.
Sandstorms in the central Korla region also hampered driving conditions. Visibility was reduced to less than 11 yards in some areas. Traffic accidents killed one person and injured several others.
The strong winds blew away field mulches, affecting the spring sowing season
Authorities in Turpan say high winds sparked 17 fires, which killed at least one person as of noon on Monday.
