The Chinese government has been spending big dollars to expand its state-run media organizations to the world. The ambitious move to boost its global media presence has not been matched, however, with a willingness to give foreign media the same room to expand within China.
In this China Focus we look at an attempt in the US to level the playing field, by limiting the number of Chinese state-run media reporters in the US. Will the Chinese Media Reciprocity Act of 2011 be passed through Congress? And will the expansion of China’s Party-controlled mouthpiece affect how we receive news and information?
