Gu Kailai Admits to Murdering Briton Neil Heywood

An update on the murder trial of Gu Kailai, the wife of ousted Chinese Politburo member Bo Xilai.

 

Gu has confessed to murdering British businessman Neil Heywood, as well as to committing “economic crimes.” The economic crimes include moving money overseas and bribery. This information comes from what a senior prosecutor close to the case told the South China Morning Post.

 

However, Gu is not being charged for the economic crimes, which may be a sign that her husband, Bo Xilai, will not be criminally prosecuted. Gu’s cooperation during the trial also suggests that she may have struck a deal to provide the best scenario for her husband and son.

 

It is alleged that Gu Kailai instructed her butler to lace Heywood's drink with cyanide in November.

 

With the Communist Party congress planning to elect a new leader in the fall, this case is predicted to be wrapped up swiftly.
