Group Suicide Bomber Attack in Afghanistan
The wounded arrive at the Parwan hospital in Afghanistan.
Taliban suicide bombers killed at least 22 people Sunday in a bold attack on a governor's compound in central Afghanistan.
[Mohammad Zaheer, Wounded Police Officer]:
"Five suicide bombers with police uniforms killed the guard of the Parwan government compound and opened fire on police forces then blew themselves up. After a few minutes their car exploded and I got injured."
A Reuters witness reported hearing at least five explosions as Afghan security forces inside the compound fought back.
Afghanistan's Interior Ministry said 22 people were killed and 34 wounded.
The dead included 16 government employees and six police officers.
NATO's International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, which provided air cover during the fight, also condemned the raid as "despicable".
Parwan is about an hour's drive northwest of Kabul.
Insurgents, often from the Taliban, have launched a series of attacks against government targets over the past year.
