Ukrainian Fashion Week Goes Green
The 26th Ukrainian Fashion Week brought both famous and young aspiring designers together to present their collections of pret-а-porter for the fall-winter season of 2010-2011.
Minimalism and modesty are popular in the new season, with clothes made from natural fabrics.
[Viktor Zavadsky, Designer]: (Russian, Male)
"Today, mainly sixties – eighties are fashionable. That is knitted dresses have enough muted colors, but very bold silhouettes."
A special feature of models is bird-like sleeves, appliqués on tights and fur scarves.
Ukrainian designers also offer to vary one’s wardrobe with clothes from the national style. For example, a coat is sewn according to an old pattern.
[Ludmila Sivceva-Klimuk, Designer]: (Ukrainian, Female)
"This is a unique handmade cut, especially the back”.
Items in the folk style are included in the men's collections as well.
[Lesya, Representative Designer Olesya Telizhenko]: (Russian, Female)
"The vest tailored in unusual way. It has hand stitches. You can also see traditional Ukrainian motifs: A typical embroidery of the eastern region of Podoliye…precise geometry, straight lines, bright colors."
And fashion-lovers have their own secrets: how to not only follow fashion, but, above all, remain faithful to one’s own style.
[Natalia Arutenya, Visitor]: (Russian, Female)
"I tend to wear a classical style mostly. This includes long jackets; free-flowing coats; long dresses of classical style; and most of all, I like jeans".
[Ludmila Skvirskaya, Visitor]: (Russian, Female)
"In the next season, high heels are fashionable. I love them very much, and high platform shoes. Gray is present; I love gray."
Around 50 collections not only from Ukrainian designers, but also from colleagues based in Britain, Romania and Georgia were at Fashion Week.
