Ukrainian 'Militia' to Rebrand to 'Police'
This is a new version of the uniform for Ukrainian militia.
21 types of clothes for the security services, ranging from special forces to officers, were presented in Kyiv.
And if a proposed new law is adopted, representatives of the security agency will not only have new clothes, but will be renamed.
They will no longer be known as "militia" but simply as "police".
Sergei is in a division of "Griffin", where the uniform is black.
He says he liked the dark clothing with fitted jacket.
"Now the police wear jacket with an elastic band - it comes up. All special features are under a jacket. And here everything is over. That is convenient. If you need fast - you just get it."
The suggested summer uniform is white shirts with short sleeves.
In this case, standard cotton fabric will be replaced.
Alex Segal, Representative of the Company-Developer
"Physical and technical properties of cotton fabrics are quite low, so we used this fabric ripstop. The cotton is reinforced with synthetic thread, only reinforced. There is a grid every 5 mm. When washing the thread does not sit down (cloth)."
The new uniform will have more synthetic fabrics, and it is not clear yet whether Ukrainian guards approve.
Anatoly Lazarev, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
"I will answer after studying in the Department of Internal Affairs. When we put it on and work in summer at temperatures between 35 and 40 celsius, and then in the winter at temperatures 26 below zero, and get feedback from our rank and file police officers, generals, lieutenants, then I can say something about this uniform."
Provided the new law is adopted, about 200,000 law enforcement officers will receive a new uniform.
But for many Ukrainians, a question would still remain: will new clothes and a new name do anything to put an end to the rampant corruption and abuse of detainees the Ukrainian security agencies are known for?
