K-pop fans will have a new place to idolize their favorite stars when a dazzling digital exhibition opens in Seoul on Friday.
The exhibition combines entertainment with the latest technology, to provide an all-round interactive experience for fans of K-pop, the popular name given to Korean pop.
The list of twenty programs and shows in the digital exhibition include 'Fantasy Tree' - a 13-meter-high circular installation covered in LED screens beaming out performances by K-pop stars.
Visitors can also experience 360 degree camera filming, and dance with the stars in a virtual space.
A preview event given for the media on Thursday was attended by K-pop stars such as Girls' Generation and F(x), as well as South Korean R&B group SHINee.
[Yuri, K-Pop Star From “Girls' Generation”]:
“I have been really looking forward to seeing how everything would be displayed. Taking it all in, I think this will be a very fun and unique experience. People will be able to enjoy various content in different forms, which will be very exciting.”
Highlights also include a hologram display of a live SHINee performance.
[Key, “SHINee” Pop Star]:
"We don't perform on stage here, but people can feel like we're performing on stage. With the hologram show, people can enjoy our dance and songs.”
The exhibition, called 'SM Fantasy World', was created by SM Entertainment, one of the three major entertainment agencies in South Korea, in collaboration with global firms such as Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor and Canon.
The agency say they have invested around 5 million USD in the project, and expect the exhibition to attract about 50,000 fans.
“SM Fantasy World” will move to Taiwan early next year, with a view to touring other Asian and European countries, as well as the United States.
