Surf's up for Germans at Munich airport.

The town is hosting the second European Championships in surfing on a stationary wave.
And the fact that Munich is 800 kilometers or 500 miles removed from the nearest beach is no problem, says contestant Jan Vogt.

[Jan Vogt, Surfer]:
"You are able to build this wave wherever you want, in the middle of the city, where there is otherwise no water. We just want to bring surfing all over the place, to the middle of the city, so that everyone has the opportunity to stand on a board."

Even at a pool set up between two airport terminals urban surfers can now catch a wave while competing for the prize money of 10,000 euros.

At the same time it provides amusement for delayed travelers who can try their hand at the surf after the end of the competition on August 12.
