K-Pop Star Psy's “Gangnam Style” Tops UK Charts
Korean rap sensation Psy is number one in the UK charts, with the highest combined record sales and downloads.
“Gangnam Style” also tops the digital charts in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand, plus a whole host of other countries.
What's more, the video has become the most liked ever on YouTube, with over 3 million likes and almost 350 million views.
So what's the secret behind the success?
High energy, great costumes, hilarious dance routines, and a thumping soundtrack strangely reminiscent of the 1990 Technotronic classic “Pump Up The Jam.”
Oh – and an insane amount of celebrity endorsement.
From teaching Britney Spears to dance on the Ellen Show, to being tweeted about by Tom Cruise, Psy is hitting the headlines big time.
And now under the stewardship of Justin Bieber's manager, don't expect him to disappear from your screens anytime soon.
In fact, Psy is already teaming up with fellow K-Pop icon Lee Seung Gi to promote the latest Samsung refrigerators.
Perhaps this traditional Korean dance festival has got it right – if you can't beat them, join them.
