Crowds near the scene of an attack in eastern Afghanistan.

The regional head of women's affairs was killed after a bomb attached to her car exploded.

Hanifa Safi's husband and at least nine other people were wounded in the attack just 93 miles east of Kabul.

No group has claimed responsibility.

Safi's death comes at a time of increasing violence against women, much of it orchestrated by the Taliban.
