Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding in Colombia
Heavy rainfall has caused Colombia’s Cauca River to overflow on Tuesday, flooding the city of Cali. It’s the heaviest rainfall that Colombia has seen in 50 years.
Neighborhoods on the Westside of the city were most affected by the rising flood waters which left thousands waiting for help from rescue workers.
One resident said she had lost everything in the flood.
[Maria Gonzales, Flood Victim]:
"Yes, I lost everything. Look at that, we are flooded up to our heads."
Authorities estimate some 5,000 people have been affected by flooding from the torrential rain fall.
Public buildings, including a school, were among those partially underwater in the city of 2.5 million people.
Heavy rains have pounded the area for the last three days with the forecast predicting more thunderstorms throughout the week.
